NCRTC to commission priority corridor of RRTS next month
The National Capital Regional Transportation Corporation (NCRTC) has announced that it will be commissioning a 17-kilometer priority corridor, which runs from Sahibabad to Duhai, in May of this year. This corridor is part of the Rapid Rail Transit Services (RRTS) project and is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut. The full Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is expected to be completed and opened to the public by 2025.
The RRTS is the country's first semi high-speed regional rapid transit system and will connect Delhi with NCR, including Meerut, Alwar, and Panipat. It has been given the brand name RAPIDX, which is easy to read and pronounce. The X in the name represents next-generation technology and new-age mobility solutions, signifying speed and progress. The new brand symbolizes the NCRTC's commitment to decarbonization by reducing congestion and the number of vehicles on the road, as well as the use of green energy.
To achieve this, the NCRTC is installing solar panels on stations and depots, and progressively increasing the use of blended power in traction. This is a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the RRTS project, and it highlights the importance of sustainable transportation in the region.
