The plant is expected to start assembling operations in mid-2009 with additional manufacturing processes to be added over the long–term. . . Providing a range of tracked crushing and screening products for the growing infrastructure and mining markets in India," says Mr. Kieran Hegarty,Vice-president, Terex Materials Processing in an interview with S.K.Khanna.

Please tell us something about Terex Pegson and Powerscreen International operations, its manufacturing facilities and their locations, prominent product range and business areas served by the company.
We provide a complete range of track crushers, screens and washing plants to match most applications–from the Terex®Pegson jaw, cone and impactor crushers to the Powerscreen®H range horizontal screens, Chieftain and Warrior incline screens for the quarrying, mining and construction and demolition waste industries. For washing sand and gravel, the Powerscreen®Finesmaster range of sand classification systems and Chieftain Rinsers have proven highly productive on the job site.

Terex Pegson & Powerscreen provide dynamic crushing and screening machinery to increase performance and efficiency for our customers. With our worldwide network of over 120 local dealers in 65 countries; we give the complete customer experience, from local sales, advice, installation, customer support, service and finance.

Terex Pegson has been serving customers for more than 170 years, whilst Powerscreen pioneered mobile screening in 1966. In 1999, both companies became part of the Terex Corporation. Terex Pegson is based in Coalville, England, and Powerscreen is based in Dungannon, Northern Ireland.

Soon, our Indian plant, along with our local Indian Dealers, will serve our Indian customers.

We believe that already we have over 50% of the track crushing and screening plants market and have only been in the market for the past 6 years.

Based on its positive market experience in India, Terex Pegson & Powerscreen in its well considered opinion has decided to set up a manufacturing plant at Hosur in India to take due advantage of emerging market for its products and services. What is the size of investment to be made and product range? When will the new facility go on stream?
The Terex Pegson & Powerscreen manufacturing plant in Hosur is the first operation in what is planned as a campus of Terex facilities on the 45-acre site. The plant is expected to start assembly operations in mid-2009 with additional manufacturing processes to be added over the long-term. We will be providing a range of tracked crushing and screening products for the growing infrastructure and mining markets in India.

We are currently training several Indian staff in our UK plants so they will be prepared for the opening of the plant in Hosur. These staff are highly educated engineers and production experts.

With construction and mining market becoming increasingly globaland India beinga major market for Terex Pegson & Powerscreen, how will Terex blend its global manufacturing policiesinto Indian market in tune with local conditions?
India is a rapidly emerging economy and we expect Terex Pegson & Powerscreen equipment to play a role in developing the country’s infrastructure. Terex Pegson and Powerscreen have grown with the country in the 6 years we’ve been here. We currently have the largest market share of tracked crushing and screening equipment in India. By investing in the local economy with this plant, we plan to continue to grow with the country.

What are the current growth drivers for Terex Pegson and Powerscreen in terms of crushing and screening plants sold so farand how would it see the evolution of Indian market in its favour vis-à-vis competition in the current product range?
Most countries now favour tracked crushing and screening machinery to those that are static and we see India following that trend. There is, of course, a period of education and change, but it’s evident from our exponential growth rate that mobile machinery is the way forward for India. The benefits of track screens include a quick and easy setup; the ability to move the machine to the material rather than the expensive trucking of material to a static plant; plus the track crushing and screening equipment can easily be transported from site to site.

Production in the Indian market will give us a good head start, and we expect to continue to be a leading track crushing and screening manufacturer in India; but we always strive to improve our products and services, listening to customers’ needs and delivering what they want.

India is a heterogeneous market in terms of products and services, what will be the focus of Terex Pegson and Powerscreen to have an efficient sales services support to render its clients a comprehensive support?
A major strength of Terex Pegson and Powerscreen the world over is our Dealer network and this is true of India, too. The Voltas Limited Mining and Construction Equipment Division are our Dealer in India with nearly 50 years experience, and 16 local offices across the country. Voltas Limited have factory trained crushing and screening specialists and service teams, backed up by the Customer Support teams at the factory headquarters; ensuring our customers have the support they expect and deserve.
Terex Pegson's Plant in India

How the present pressure of rising input costs, wages etc is expected to impact the new facility to maintain its product range price competitiveon a sustainable basis?
Terex Pegson & Powerscreen engineers are setting up the processes and procedures for the new Indian plant, using lessons from our UK factories, enhancing them on a blank canvas. Over time, manufacturing processes instituted in India could well be adopted in Coalville and Dungannon, aiding the companies’ commitment to continuous improvement and enhanced global competitiveness.
