PM Inaugurates Sea Bridge, Unveils ₹30,500 cr Projects in Maharashtra
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the longest sea bridge in the country, in Navi Mumbai. Built at an approximate cost of Rs. 17,840 crore, the MTHL is now named 'Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri - Nhava Sheva Atal Setu.' It incorporates pioneering technologies, including eco-friendly lighting to preserve the aquatic environment. Atal Setu is a 21.8 km long six-lane bridge, with approximately 16.5 km over the sea and 5.5 km on land. It features a crash barrier designed at 1.55 meters, ensuring a clear view of the sea from car seats. The bridge will provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport, reducing travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and South India. Additionally, it will enhance connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
The bridge has used an orthotropic steel deck, noise silencers, sound barriers, and an earthquake resistance system. Reverse Circulation Rigs are deployed to cause minimal vibrations and impact on neighboring areas. The MTHL is equipped with India’s most intelligent state-of-the-art traffic management system and Debris Management System to prevent waste from falling into the sea and affecting marine life. The bridge is set to open for public use on January 13.
Following the bridge inauguration, the Prime Minister unveiled various projects across Maharashtra, entailing an investment of Rs. 30,500 crore. He laid the foundation stone for an underground road tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway's Orange Gate and launched the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan in the state. These projects focus on enhancing urban transport infrastructure and connectivity to improve the 'ease of mobility' for citizens.
