Mr. Deepak Garg, CEO, SANY India.
How do you see infrastructure development activities in India?
The infrastructure sector is one of the key sectors that contributes to the overall development of the country. The government is also taking initiatives to ensure world-class infrastructure in the country. According to a report by India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the country requires Rs. 31 trillion (US$ 454.83 billion) to be spent on infrastructure development over the next five years, with 70% of funds to be allocated for power, roads, and urban infrastructure segments.
Constructing 40km of roads a day needs a higher level of mechanization and expertise. It entails technically sound equipment and more skilled workforce with the contractors. Is the industry well-equipped to handle such a daunting task?
The construction equipment industry is growing and embracing technology development rapidly. We, at SANY India, are committed to introduce more efficient and economical technologies and provide equipment that is superior in quality. This helps our customers to expedite the projects and contribute towards developing India faster. Skill development is an integral part of SANY’s offerings. We help customers with training their workforce on handling equipment efficiently at the SANY India Global Training Centre.
The industry is gearing up to meet the challenging target of 40km of roads a day. The quality of infrastructure will be a challenge and will call for a sea change in our approach towards technology and skill development. We look forward to help the government realize the vision of India with better and more accessible roads.
How do you sum-up 2016 for your company and in which product segment you saw maximum growth?
We also achieved a historic landmark this year, with the roll-out of the 1,000th and 1,001st machines from our plant in Chakan, Pune. The 1,000th machine was an Excavator and the 1,001st machine was a Transit Mixer. This milestone has been achieved in a short span of nine months, from January to September 2016.
We have witnessed an increase in demand for excavators, large size cranes, piling rigs and other earthmoving machinery. We look forward to achieve more such milestones in the coming years, at the same time, setting new benchmarks in quality standards that SANY stands for.
This year has seen growth in the CE sector with stiff competition in the market. What steps are you taking to strengthen your position?
SANY India is dedicated to offer products which are superior in quality and provide ready service to all its customers. We are also expanding our dealerships across the country to increase availability. We presently have 25 dealers in India across regions and we plan to increase the number so that customers and SANY can reach out to each other faster and more conveniently.
Localization helps a lot in bringing down manufacturing and operational costs; to what extent localized its products and how much more localization is being planned in the near future?
SANY India has localized about 35% of its content. We adopt global technology and localize according to customer needs. We aim to increase localization to 50% in the coming 3-5 years.
As one of the largest Chinese equipment manufacturers, what does SANY think about knowledge sharing and training for the Indian customers to ease their jobsite challenges?
SANY India houses the Global Training Center of SANY. We think training and development is an integral part of our growth. At the Pune training facility, we help our customers in India and globally to understand the product better, so that they can get maximum output from their equipment.
