Narendra Modi Unveils Projects Worth ₹11,000 Cr in Guwahati, Assam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth ₹11,000 crores in Guwahati, Assam, with a key focus on enhancing sports, medical infrastructure, and connectivity.
These development projects aim to bolster Assam’s connectivity with the North Eastern states and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, while also fostering employment opportunities in the tourism sector and nurturing sporting talents in the state.
Among the key projects is the Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana (Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor), sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, which aims to provide world-class amenities to pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya temple.
Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for multiple road upgradation projects worth over Rs. 3400 crore, including the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Corridor Connectivity, which will upgrade 43 roads and 38 bridges, improving connectivity to Itanagar and promoting economic development.
To tap into the region's sports potential, projects were initiated to enhance sports infrastructure, including an international standards sports stadium in Chandrapur and the upgradation of Nehru stadium to a FIFA standard football stadium.
Moreover, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the development of infrastructure at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, along with the establishment of a medical college in Karimganj, emphasizing the importance of healthcare infrastructure in the region.
