Cabinet clears Rs 20,773.70-cr green energy corridor
The Union Cabinet has approved a 713km long Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II-Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for 13 GW renewable (RE) energy project in Ladakh at a cost of Rs 20,773.70 crore. The project involves the setting up of 713 km transmission lines (including 480 km HVDC line) and a five GW capacity of HVDC terminal at Pangong (Ladakh) and Kaithal (Haryana). It will also be connected to the Leh-Alusteng-Srinagar line, which will help provide power to Jammu and Kashmir. The transmission line for evacuating power will pass through Himachal Pradesh and Punjab up to Kaithal in Haryana, where it will be integrated with the national grid. An interconnection is also planned from this project in Leh to the existing Ladakh grid to ensure reliable power supply to Ladakh. The project, which is targeted to be set up by FY30, involves central financial assistance at 40 percent of the cost amounting to Rs 8,309.48 crore, and Powergrid will be the implementing agency for this project. The project will contribute to achieving 500 GW of installed electricity capacity target from non-fossil fuels by the year 2030.
