Road projects worth Rs. 80,000cr up for grab
Close on the heels of contracting infrastructure projects to the tune of $1 billion in the first week of the New Year, the Union Government is all set to award road projects worth Rs. 80,000cr in the next few months of which Rs. 20,000cr projects including Mumbai trans-harbor sea link and Navi Mumbai airport projects involving an investment Rs. 10,000cr each would be contracted very shortly. Similarly National Highways Authority has readied road projects worth Rs. 60,000cr and all of them would be awarded during the next four to six months this year.

In totality, project awarding mechanism is all set to accelerate further shortly after the process of the on-going state elections is over. According to the head, road projects, Reliance Infra, Sudhir Hosing, among other the infra players are expecting more orders from the government this year as large number of road projects are currently lying in the pipeline and the company is keen to bid for mega highways and the JNPT Pune National highway-4 project. The company has already started the building work of the fifth road project in Tamil Nadu recently. The infrastructure companies will fare better this year but the road sector offers huge business potentials but at the time it is also set to witness aggressive bids in the near future, commented Investment advisor, S P Tulsian.
