Wirtgen focuses on its small range of compactor & paver in India

Wirtgen India to Enter into Retail Road Construction Business

Enlarging its product portfolio further and to build its top and bottom lines, Wirtgen India, will offer its road construction solutions to small and medium contractors. This was disclosed by Mr. Ramesh Palagiri, MD, Wirtgen India.

Mr. Palagiri explained, "Since there has been a slowdown in execution of long stretches national highway development programme, owing to myriad reasons. This has curtailed demand of higher capacity road construction equipment. Hence, we have a plan to enter into the segment through promoting our small compactors and pavers."

He said, "We are making awareness among customers through road shows on our Hamm range of tandem compactors, highlighting customers the value propositions of the machinery in terms of its productivity and lesser total operating costs." Wirtgen is planning to make the products price competitive, through installing Indian Cummins engines in the compactors.


Mr. Palagiri said, "Our pavers are equipped with advanced technology, eco-friendly, economical and ergonomical aspects. The "EcoPlus Package," for instance, significantly reduces fuel consumption and noise levels. Further, the popular ErgoPlus operating system is equipped with a number of additional ergonomic and functional features. Pavedock assistance, new autoset function are just some of the many new features in the Dash 3 generation of Pavers."

Mr. Palagiri also said, "We are quite hopeful on business potential of our Kleeman range of mobile crushers. We are planning to promote the premium mobile crushers to quarry and mine owners having a requirement to run the plants for long duration between 3000-4000 hours.

Mr. Palagiri reiterated, "We do not plan to appoint any dealers in India for selling our road construction and mining solutions, rather, we will keep promoting and supporting our products through direct sales. This is because dealers in India are not technically proficient in marketing and supporting advanced road construction machinery."

For Indian road construction market, Wirtgen offers pavers with screed size from 5 meters both tracked and wheeled, Vogele 1300-2 and Vogele 1303-2 for smaller roads construction. Our pavers range from 9 mtr to 13 mtrs class with extending screeds. The other products for the Indian market are Hamm 311 vibratory soil compactor as well the HD 90 Tandem Roller. Besides, pneumatic rubber wheeled tyred rollers for asphalt are also made available by the company. For milling machines, Wirtgen offers W35 DC and the W 50 road milling machines for specialized applications, the W 100 and the W 130F for city milling, and the W 2000 for large milling jobs.

Wirtgen India has its assembly facility in Pune. It also houses a training school. Four batches of 20 trainees a year are trained with hands on learning experience on the machines. The facility also has a workshop to refurbish 4 machines at a time including paver and surface miner. Wirtgen India will start a full-fledged remanufacturing programme in 2014.
