ExxonMobil’s Perspective on Sustainability in Indian Lubricants and Grease Sector

ExxonMobil Lubricants Private Limited, the global leader in synthetic lubricants, organized a roundtable conference in Delhi last month. In an exclusive interaction with the media, the company shed light on its specialized lubricant solutions for the construction and mining sector in India, and how it’s adhering to the ever essential sustainability cause.

During the course of the session, the company’s officials stated that the Mobil Industrial Lubricants’ product portfolio in India is well positioned to support the construction, mining, and various other sectors. Notably, ExxonMobil offers a broad line of advanced lubricating oils and greases that can help increase equipment operating efficiency and engine fuel economy, and help contribute to reduced energy and resource use, lower emissions and cost savings for industrial equipment, machinery, passenger and commercial vehicle engines.

Mr. Paul Grives, Global Services & Grease Marketing Manager, ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants & Specialties Marketing Company, stated that advanced technology lubricants and greases help protect and extend equipment life, which in turn significantly helps minimize the need to purchase new equipment and associated maintenance, disposal and replacement. While emphasizing on sustainability, he informed, “ExxonMobil recognizes the importance of addressing sustainability in today’s global marketplace – balancing economic growth, social development and environmental protection. Sustainability as related to industrial lubricants is an interesting dichotomy since being based on crude oil as a raw material for both mineral and synthetic based lubricants, lubricants appear to be the opposite of sustainability. Conversely, without industrial lubricants, future economic growth would not be possible. The resolution to this dichotomy comes in the form of energy and energy management. Industrial lubricants and greases play a key role in the effective management of energy whether we talk of energy efficient lubricants and lubricants supporting renewable energy production, long life or fill-for-life lubricants to lubricants offering excellent equipment protection.”

The gentlemen also talked about the concept of “Advancing Productivity” and “Global Mining Program.” While the former focuses on how ExxonMobil’s innovative products and services help deliver tangible performance benefits in the areas of safety, environmental care and productivity, the latter emphasizes on how the mining sector is one of the most fundamental components of the industrial landscape in India, and also one of the most challenging from a lubrication standpoint.
