In the initial phase, the project will encompass six areas: Kopri in Thane East, Rabodi, Hazuri, Lokmanya Nagar, Tekdi Bungalow area in Panchpakhadi, and Kisan Nagar. Its objectives encompass the redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings, as well as legal and illegal residential structures. The first two clusters, located in Kisan Nagar, will involve construction on 7,753 square meters and 19,275 square meters, respectively. To avoid the need for transit camps, the project will utilize available open spaces. Anticipated to benefit approximately 30,000 families, the project is being executed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), with the construction contract awarded to B G Shirke and Company.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a free 323-square-foot home, facilitating the transition from dilapidated houses to secure and well-planned township complexes. Each sector will be equipped with amenities such as a library, gymnasium, health center, community center, creche, and spaces for senior citizens. The cluster scheme has been designed by renowned architect Hafeez Contractor, incorporating space reservations for a school, hospital, and a 40-meter-wide road. Additionally, the government has partnered with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Ltd (Mahapreit), a state-owned entity experienced in affordable housing projects, to execute a third cluster.
