From Yarn to Bridges – Strata Takes Another Giant Leap in Technical Textiles

Strata Geosystems, a global leader in the soil reinforcement industry, has opened its new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which will meet the growing demand for geosynthetic products in India and around the globe.

"We buy yarn and deliver bridges," said Ashok Bhawnani, Founding Director – Strata Geosystems. "Geogrids reinforcing soil is analogous to steel reinforcing concrete and this technology is being used for ramp construction for flyover crossings, landfills, mining dykes and several other engineered structures," added Narendra Dalmia, CEO & Director, Strata Geosystems.

Strata started in India in 2004 for manufacturing technical textiles and within a decade became the largest developer for reinforced soil structures, having built more than 400 bridge ramps on national highways across the country. Today, reinforced soil technology has found acceptance in every corner of the country and has facilitated the requirement for a large-scale manufacturing plant to cater to the growing infrastructure needs in India.

Strata Facility

Strata welcomed its partners from Glen Raven, Inc., a global performance-textile company headquartered in the USA, namely, Leib Oehmig, CEO, and Harold Hill, President of the Technical Fabrics division. "This is a tremendous milestone for the entire Strata global organization," said Harold Hill. "It's an occasion that has been in the making for many years and it's only been possible through the hard work and steadfast dedication of our team in India, who are top-notch professionals," said Leib Oehmig.

Reiterating its commitment to India and the PM's Make in India vision, the new facility will be the largest for geogrid manufacturing. It will provide sufficient capacity to cater to India's demand and also strengthen existing export capabilities across the world. The plant will provide the widest geogrid made on 245" knitting machines, very high strength products and will improve technical parameters like enhanced stress strain values.

The facility, located over 10 acres, houses proprietary coating machines, efficient material handling capabilities, and an advanced laboratory, which will be accredited with global standards. The plant has been built using technical textiles for the factory flooring, internal roads, water-proofing, slopes and embankments, parking lots, and several other engineered applications as a testament to their benefits showcased to visitors.

The inauguration of this plant is a milestone for the country's technical textile sector and a key step towards global expansion not only for Strata but also for India in the geosynthetics arena. This plant is dedicated to the pioneering efforts by Ministry of Textiles for their encouragement to technical textiles and lending support in mandating them in various user ministries. www.strataindia.com
