Highlighting on the facilities offered by the warehouse, Mr. O.P. Bangur, Director, Dozco mentions, “since the portfolio of construction and mining equipment distributed by us, happens to be quite wide, it makes quite imperative to have elaborate stocking facilities for a little more than 30,000 different components.” He adds, “since we also have service network across the country, which looks after the service requirements of other brand of equipment, apart from our own ones, in terms of components replacement and equipment servicing. Hence, the mother warehouse has to be total with component support facilities so as to make us qualified as a complete equipment service provider.”

Dozco is the exclusive national distributor for Sumitomo excavators, Yanmar mini excavators, Shantui dozers, motor graders and pipe layers and Soosan hydraulic rock breakers. It has recently entered into a recent distribution tie–up with Kawasaki of Japan for distributing the company’s wheel loaders in the country. Dozco distributes different capacity range equipment for its parents.

    The Warehouse

Spread across an area of little more than two acres, Dozco’s mother warehouse has assorted equipment stocking provisions for products in separate set of chambers. The chambers are designed across vertical layers in pallets. The top layer stocks slow moving products comprising, engine spares, hydraulic pumps, control valves, hydraulic cylinders, swing motors & devices, and tyres.

While the lower layers stocks the fast moving ones involving, track link, track rollers, teeths, and number of under carriage components for excavators and dozers. Pointing on the separate layer based arrangement for storing the components, Mr. Hanumatha Rao, Senior Service Manager, Dozco mentions, “provision of storing the components in separate layers enables us to have an easy access and supply them as soon as the demand is placed by the end–user, thereby cutting down in dwell time lag.”

The layers of components meet the equipment requirements of Dozco’s own parents and for other equipment brands. Dozco supplies components to Komatsu, Caterpillar, Bharat Movers and to other earthmoving equipment manufacturers apart from meeting the requirements of its own distributed products.

The layers stores track and carrier rollers for Taiheiyo Seiki K.K. of Japan, forged teeth and tips and cutting edges and end bits for Italricambi of Italy and for ND-Dipl of China, undercarriage parts for DCF, South Korea. Hydraulic pumps, swing motors, travel devices and parts for Tong Myung of South Korea, fasteners from Ajax, Australia, tyre and rubber tracks from Solideal. Besides, they also store seals from Hallite from UK, bearings from Shin-IL, South Korea, filters from Mann and lighting systems from Hella.

The vertical layers of the warehouse owes its importance as the main nerve centre for making available wide range of components, of global repute, to the users as per their demand requirements. Dozco is also the distributor of these components.

The warehouse owes its importance for storing exhaustive range of components for meeting Dozco’s own requirements as well as for other manufacturing brands. However, it is one of the macro level, proper inventory management systems, the company has devised making the functioning of the warehouse synchronized to meet the equipment users requirements.

As per Mr. B.B. Sharma, Manager Equipment Sales, Dozco, “the company keeps a continuous track & monitors, the equipment population in the country based both on the ongoing and newly begun construction and mining projects. The size and the completion time of the projects are taken into account, based on the same, we calculate the number of equipment in terms of units, and the project could require and how fast could be the requirement of the fast and slow moving components be made based on the equipment usage. On this continuous groundwork, we place the component orders with our parents to replenish the stocks on schedule.”

However he mentions, “it is over the strategic location of the warehouse at Vizag itself, at the port city and also proximity to Chennai port allows us to minimize down time, post placement of order for the components and spares.”

    Ancillary Facilities

The warehouse, apart from being a component support centre is also equipped with a machine shop and workshop for engine overhauling and components repair. However, Dozco plans to set up a separate workshop and service centre at Vizag itself for enhanced equipment servicing. The workshop would have elaborate arrangements for undertaking repair of hydraulic components. The new facility, which is expected to come up in 2009, would also look after sales requirements. All which will enable the company make its services further well accomplished.
