A Few Important Participants

Manitowoc's innovation at bauma

At bauma 2016, Manitowoc presented a host of products, including several notable innovations that offer customers better return on their investment. It is for the first time that the company participated as a standalone company following the separation of Manitowoc Cranes and Manitowoc Foodservice from The Manitowoc Company.

Manitowoc Hup Crane

A ground-breaking self-erecting crane, the first from the new PotainHup range, is presented by Manitowoc Cranes at this major trade show. Boasting unique and innovative design features, the pioneering PotainHup 32-27 is the first from the exclusive range. It showcases the significant investment in time and resources, including a period of extensive research and testing that led to the creation of this advanced model, which will replace four existing Potain Igo cranes.

The Hup crane provides superior lifting capacity at tall heights, increasing productivity for owners. Like other Potain self-erecting cranes, the new Hup 32-27 is well-suited to space-restricted job sites and delivers unprecedented performance. It features an adjustable two-section mast that has a third section contained within the second. This design allows the third mast section to be telescoped out, boosting the working height of the crane to 27 m.

Manitowoc GMK5150L
Also draw plenty of attention was the Grove GMK5150L all-terrain crane. This 150 t capacity unit has a 60 m boom, and is also available in a standard boom version - the GMK5150 - with a 51 m boom. For both cranes, class-leading strength and mobility are the focuses, including 'taxi' or road-going configurations.

The Grove rough-terrain cranes introduced at bauma include the GRT8100 and GRT880, the first to use the company's new naming format for the product line, Grove Rough-Terrain (GRT). The cranes are also among the first new designs since the company introduced its pioneering Product Verification Center (PVC) at its factory in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, U.S. The PVC allows Manitowoc to conduct unrivaled levels of testing on components, which, in turn, drives the development of more productive and more reliable cranes to deliver better value to customers. At present, Manitowoc is the only crane manufacturer operating a facility like the PVC.

With increased capacity at mid range and maximum radii, the GRT8100 and GRT880 are more versatile than competitors' cranes – they boast up to 16% greater capacity at full radius, 13% greater capacity in mid-range applications and 27% greater capacity at close radii. With off settable boom and fly extensions, the cranes enable customers to lift heavier loads to greater heights, helping companies compete for - and win - bids for projects they may not have been able to previously.

Other models from Grove's range of all-terrain cranes, in addition to the new GMK5150L, include the GMK5250L and GMK4100L-1, both of which were launched in the past 12 months and made their first appearance at this major trade show. They are joined by a GMK6400, one of the world's most popular six-axle machines.

Potain cranes were featured strongly on the Manitowoc Cranes booth, and the company gave center stage to the MDT 389. With a 16 t maximum capacity, the MDT 389 is the largest in the new CCS topless range, a product line which was also formally launched at the show. CCS is a standardized, user-friendly operating system that is being rolled out on all new Potain tower cranes, helping users enjoy the highest levels of comfort, flexibility, ergonomic control and improved lifting capacity. This enhanced productivity will translate in to faster return on investment for Potain crane owners.

MR 418, first shown at CONEXPO 2014 in the U.S., made its first appearance at a major European exhibition. Both the MR 418 and MDT 389 are notable for their capacity and size, which allow contractors to make significant cost and time savings on projects. With a maximum capacity of 24 t, the MR 418 is one of the largest luffing jib cranes from Potain. Rounding out the products on show from Potain is the MDT 219, the largest model in the new MDT CCS City Crane range. It is available in either an 8 t or 10 t version.

Visitors to the Manitowoc booth also learned about the company's unique VPC technology in its "Crawler Crane Innovation Pavilion", where a range of demonstrations and displays showcased the features and benefits of the system.

In addition to highlight its products, Manitowoc also showcased its range of value-added support services. These include Manitowoc Crane Care, its industry-leading customer support division; EnCORE, its refurbishment and remanufacturing arm; the Used Cranes division; Lift Solutions, its in-house engineering team to handle special customer requests; and Manitowoc Finance, its funding arm. These services are all designed to help Manitowoc crane owners get the most from their purchase and the fastest possible rates of customer payback.

Wirtgen Group City expands to new dimensions

The Wirtgen Group appeared together with Benninghoven for the first time at bauma 2016. The group of companies now is capable of serving the entire process chain in road construction with its own technologies, from processing, mixing and paving, to compacting and rehabilitation. The exhibition area was designed to reflect the "life cycle" of road construction. The Skywalk, located 5 m up in the air, connected the Wirtgen Group's main pavilion with the respective Technology Centers for the five product brands: Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, Kleemann and Benninghoven. This 360° setup gave visitors an overview of each and every process step in road construction. And many took advantage of the opportunity to get a closer look at the Group's expertise in developing solutions: At the machine exhibition, in the Technology Centers, in the special presentations and in personal talks with the Wirtgen Group's international applications specialists.

The world premieres and product innovations from Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, Kleemann and Benninghoven were the undisputed favorites among visitors. They were equally impressed by Wirtgen's most powerful cold milling machine in the compact class, the W 150 CFi; Vögele's brand-new, special class SUPER 21003 IP InlinePave train with numerous innovative features from its "Dash 3" generation; Hamm's HD+ 90i PH VO Hybrid articulated tandem roller with Power Hybrid; Kleemann's MOBICONE MCO 11 PRO cone crusher designed for processing natural rock; and Benninghoven's 48-m-high BA 4000 RPP asphalt mixing plant.

In the Technology Centers, the Wirtgen Group displayed the pioneering technologies that make each of the five product brands leading specialists in their respective fields. Here, visitors could quite literally "grasp" how much the products are tailored to conditions in practice.

For instance, in the Wirtgen Technology Center, six stations provided detailed information on the innovative machine control technologies used by the market leader in its small, compact and large milling machines.

Vögele presented its Road Scan non-contacting temperature measurement system, which can be used with all Vögele pavers in the "Dash 3" generation and measurably improves paving quality.

Visitors gained hands-on experience at Hamm's Technology Center, where they could stand on an operator's platform and see just how user-friendly a Hamm roller is to operate thanks to the Easy Drive operating concept.

Kleemann concentrated on the technical highlights of its innovative EVO generation and demonstrated how the flexible EVO crushers efficiently tackle the processing of natural rock and recycled material.

At the Benninghoven Technology Center, the main topics were: how to responsibly manage resources when recycling reclaimed asphalt, and the associated cost-efficient dosing systems in asphalt mixing plants.

Wirtgen bauma 2016

This transfer of know-how was rounded out by special presentations from the product brands located around the exhibits. These provided information on the Group's other core competences.

The Wirtgen Group's theme at this year's bauma was "Close to our customers - to the power of 5". And that includes more than just innovative products and technologies, as the group of companies emphasized in various special presentations on topics such as customer support.

To help its customers worldwide who face a variety of challenges, the Wirtgen Group offers extensive services and an abundance of know-how, from financing, applications consulting and machine operator certification, to full OEM equipment supply and support in the event of technical problems.

This kind of close customer support also was evident on the Wirtgen Group's exhibition area that became a real industry meeting point, thanks to the collaborative exchange between customers, trade professionals and the specialists from Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, Kleemann and Benninghoven.

Linden Comansa's 21LC750, The Tallest Tower Crane of bauma 2016

With an impressive freestanding height under hook of 80.9 metres and a jib length of 80 metres, the 21LC750 tower crane from Linden Comansa was seen from every corner of bauma. This model has been a part of the exhibits from tower crane manufacturer Linden Comansa and German partner BKL Baukran Logistik GmbH, a leading crane rental, sales and service company in Central Europe.

The exhibited 21LC750, with 48 tonnes of maximum load capacity and flat-top design, has been sold to BKL, who will add it to its rental fleet. With this purchase and the stunning exhibition of the crane at Bauma, the German based crane specialist BKL strengthens its position in the large tower crane market (up to 750 tonne-metre) to be able to equip big industrial and infrastructure projects.

Linden Comansa bauma 2016

Another exhibit by Linden Comansa was an 11LC160 flat-top tower crane, with maximum load capacity of 8 tonnes, monoblock mast sections and steel framed counterweights. The 11LC160, which will also join the rental fleet of BKL, and the 21LC750 are the first of a large order from BKL to manufacturer Linden Comansa.

Linden Comansa also showcased a LCL 280 luffing-jib crane, which has never been seen before at any trade show. The LCL family of luffers, including this model, feature important improvements that have been recently applied thanks to the suggestions and ideas of Linden Comansa's customers worldwide.

Case offers a wide range of equipment for the waste and recycling sector

CASE Construction Equipment displayed its full line of equipment and services for the construction industry at bauma. The line-up on the stand's area was dedicated to recycling applications that include a CX290D crawler excavator in Material Handling configuration, two F Series wheel loaders, and a versatile SV280 skid steer loader. The CASE's other offerings for this sector includes Dozers with Paladin landfill guards specifically designed for the 1650M and 2050M.

The cynosure of all eyes at the stand was CASE D Series range of crawler excavators with a new model: the CX290D which is specifically designed and engineered for material handling applications. With its superior reach and lifting capacity, it makes short work of moving all sorts of waste, logs, garbage and scrap. The dedicated elevating cab structure provides the operator with a commanding view of the working area from a height of 5.06 metres. The reversible fan cleans the radiators more effectively, keeping high performance in the dusty conditions typical of many material handling applications. The CX290D will also become available with goose necked arm and straight boomin the scrap loading version.

Case Crawler Excavator
The wheel loader on display, the 721F in Waste Handler configuration, is one of two models that has been designed specifically for use in harsh environments such as the waste and recycling management sectors (the other is the 621F WH). They feature CASE's HI-eSCR technology that doesn't require EGR or particulate filter. This unique design that only uses built-for-life-components is maintenance-free and fuel-efficient. This solution has an additional advantage of safety near flammable materials, as the exhaust's maximum temperature is 200°C, lower than it would be with a DPF. This is particularly useful when doing jobs such as handling materials in wood recycling centres. Another feature that is extremely valuable in waste handling applications is the CASE Heavy Duty Cooling option, which prevents clogging of the radiator.

CASE skid steer loaders SV280 displayed at the show can be tailored to the demanding requirements of this sector with a range of options and accessories specifically conceived for waste and recycling applications. These include a variety of protections against the tough conditions typical of this sector: a heavy duty reinforced metal rear door, a metal bezel to protect the front and side lights, boom cylinder protections and FOPS Level 2. Additional counterweights are available to increase lifting capacity ensuring excellent stability in all conditions. Solid tyres reduce the risk of tread damage, offer greater lift capacity and increased stability than standard pneumatic tyres, and they last up to 3 times longer. A highly resistant reinforced polycarbonate front door protects the operator from falling objects and ensures sealing and cab pressurisation to prevent the ingress of dust and contaminants in the air.

The CASE also showcased its 1650M and 2050M dozers which are available with a complete kit of landfill guards specifically designed for them by Paladin – a leading manufacturer of attachments.

Apart from these, CASE also introduced the upgraded user interface of its SiteWatch™ telematics portal that has been redesigned using HTML5 and the latest web development technologies and is now at the forefront of telematics portals in the industry.

Goldhofer Exhibits its Innovation & Technologies

Goldhofer, one of the leading manufacturers of special transport vehicles unveiled several exciting innovation at bauma 2016 including its high girder bridge concept »Faktor 5«, which stays on the road to success and conquers the transport world. One of the main reasons for its success story is its sensational payload-to-deadweight ratio.

Depending on customer requirements, the number of powered axles on both PST modules exhibited together with the »Faktor 5« at bauma 2016 can be individually and flexibly configured. This enables the best possible adjustment of the vehicles to the traction force required for the planned transport projects as well as to the respective customer budget. The PST modules are also quite impressive in terms of safety, reliability and maintenance effort. Both the PST/SL and the PST/SL-E can be driven permanently under full load without running hot. And finally, the tried-and-tested, robust and high-performance components of the power packs also contribute significantly to the vehicles' long service life and maintenance of value.

Also displayed at the show was multi-purpose vehicle STZ-L semi low loader. Due to its lowered side extensions, the variable loading platform and the low, but also variable loading height, the STZ-L RM with wheel recesses is suitable as a universal transport concept for the most diverse loads – for example, for the often very large and high vehicles that are used in the construction industry. It is this wide range of possible applications that makes the STZ-L RM so attractive for many users. Additional advantages are its high payload at low 5th wheel load and the proven and robust Goldhofer steering system, which allows for high manoeuvrability as well as low tire wear and therefore low maintenance costs. And that with comparatively low capital expenditure!

Goldhofer Special Transport Vehicles

One of the other eye-catchers at the Goldhofer stand was FTV 300 blade transport device. With this device, long rotor blades can be safely transported even on extremely demanding routes – for example when wind turbines are being built in mountainous terrain. The load-bearing capacity of the system covers all standard rotor blades up to a length of 60m and a load moment of 300mt. Thanks to interchangeable rotor blade adapters, all kinds of rotor blades can be easily mounted – thus making the system especially future-proof. In addition, ballast weights at the rear end of the vehicle enable the balancing of various blade weights and therefore ensure optimal axle load distribution at all times.

At bauma, Goldhofer also presented its brand new »ADDRIVE« – the innovation par excellence in the area of heavy-duty modules. »ADDRIVE« is an intelligent solution that brings together the benefits of a towed module with those of a self-propelled module while fulfilling the highest demands in terms of a wide range of possible applications as well as in terms of tractive force, speed, availability and economics. The bottom line is simply more efficiency and an optimal flexibility for your fleet.

Besides these, Goldhofer also exhibited its versatile product family THP/SL with a range of unbeatable advantages for the heavy haulage industry.

PERI: Best solving expertise in formwork and scaffolding

PERI Scaffolding Formwork

PERI presented the very latest formwork and scaffolding technology at bauma including DUO – the universal lightweight formwork from PERI for walls and slabs.

With the recently introduced DUO Lightweight Formwork, PERI has proved how more than just minor improvements are possible through a combination of new materials and a new component systematic. For the vast majority of the components of the new DUO formwork system, PERI uses a specially developed fibre-reinforced plastic which is resistant to moisture-related swelling and shrinkage, corrosion-proof and problem-free when coming into contact with concrete. The required mechanical properties can be adjusted through variable fibre content in the system components. Regarding the intended load-bearing capacity, significant weight savings are achieved as a result of using the plastic compared to steel or aluminium constructions. In addition, any minor damage to the surface of the formlining manufactured of the same material can easily be repaired. The formwork panels are matched to the size of the panel and can be quickly replaced on site using simple tools.

For high-rise building cores with medium to large dimensions, PERI has developed a new self-climbing formwork the ACS Core 400 with a very high load-bearing capacity, also unveiled at bauma 2016.

PERI Duo Formwork Systems

The specially developed climbing hydraulics function by means of long-stroke cylinders with a lifting capacity of 40 t in each case. With a lifting height of 5.10 m, the formwork can be moved in a single step without requiring intermediate strokes, also for large storey heights. Thanks to the ample lifting capacity, large placing booms can also be climbed together with the working and climbing brackets and must not be moved separately. As a result, concreting operations are significantly accelerated as well as the elimination of additional working steps. In addition, the lifting cylinders are synchronized; even different loads, e.g. due to the component geometries, can be compensated.

A VARIOKIT arched formwork assembly for mining applications on the basis of a VARIOKIT VTC Tunnel Formwork Carriage was also displayed by PERI. The exhibit is equipped with hydraulic operating controls which largely accelerate shuttering and striking operations along with facilitating user-friendly lowering and raising of the formwork carriage. The PERI system is suitable for both mining as well as the cut-and-cover method, and reduces the installation time required for anchors through a combination of high load-bearing system walers and DW 20 anchors.

At the bauma, PERI also presented a new refurbishment anchor which, in combination with the lightweight VGK Cantilevered Parapet Bracket, is ideally suited for parapet renovation. Besides these, many other innovations was also introduced by the company.
