BAU is Booming

Bauma 2011

Bauma 2011
Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer, Managing Director, Messe Munchen GmbH, the orgainser of global trade fair for architecture, materials, and systems was in New Delhi recently to promote his global event - BAU 2011- in India. From his busy schedule, he took some time to interact with senior editorial staff of NBM Media - S. A. Faridi and S. K Khanna - to explore the possibilities of event's promotion in India through their publications.

During his briefing about BAU series of exhibitions and trade fairs, he said BAU is the world's leading event for the building materials, systems and architecture as it brings and addresses everyone under one roof connected with the planning, building and design process, from engineers, planners, architects, and project developers to skilled tradesmen, building materials specialists and those working for housing projects.

Bauma 2011

BAU has been underscoring its importance to the industry time and again. BAU 2009, despite the difficult state of economy, achieved its distinctive success in its over 40 years of history. Over 37,000 of the total 212,035 visitors  came from outside Germany with 1920 exhibitors from nearly 43 countries. Over 90% exhibitors gave it a good to excellent ratings and the event was able to create 82% new business ties. Over 1400 journalists from 30 countries attended the event. It is expected that the next edition of the event BAU 2011, to be held in Germany from January 17 to 22 would be much bigger than ever with new features, allowing all concerned to experience materials, techniques & systems and their potential applications.

Bauma 2011
The building industry recognizes the role of BAU as an innovations engine. It gears its innovations and research & development work to the event cycle of BAU which ensures that it covers the new themes that the industry is interested in. Always the emphasis with BAU is on solutions. Covering all building materials and trades the event promotes cooperation among individual skills, industry and the building trades.

At BAU, the range of exhibits are rounded out by attractive and extensive programs of related events that include first rate forums with leading architects and engineers from around the world. Selected themes would be discussed, illustrated and specific solutions will be presented at the stands of the exhibitors. BAU 2011 will be highlighting the hot topics currently dominating in the field of architecture and construction including Sustainable building, Building for Life, Research and Innovation, as well as Education and training. In addition, BAU will have a special show on designs for lightweight tensile structures made from innovative textiles and foils.

As per Dr Reinhard, in building and construction, it´s impossible to ignore sustainability – the industry is of course one of the biggest consumers of energy and resources. In all corners of the trade fair, at the stands of exhibitors from all segments of the industry, visitors will be able to find products and materials that meet the criteria of sustainability. Elaborating on the idea behind the concept of building for life, he said, the forum will discuss on the designing and fitting out living space in such a way that everyone cannot only use it but also feel comfortable and safe within it.

Enumerating other themes, he further said, ‘The Future of Building’ is the slogan of BAU. Just what future looks like will be on show at the exhibitors´ stands. There visitors can take a look at the products, systems and materials emerging from years of research and development work. R&D is playing a big role elsewhere at the fair, too, for example in the Forum ‘MacroArchitecture’ and in the special exhibition on ‘Intelligent Building.’

Bauma 2011

On education and training forum, he revealed that finding well qualified and highly motivated employees is not easy, in particular for the building and construction industry. Not least because young people don´t see the sector as exactly ‘in’. BAU is doing its bit now to change this trend by attracting youth to work in the building industry and advertise real jobs in the sector.

On promoting BAU in India, he said since India is set to emerge a very big market for these products and services due to its focus in infrastructure development, we are pitching high to promote various channel communicating BAU message that industries in India can expect many new developments in architecture, materials systems, green building and affordable housing options. India is such a vast market that it never late for anyone with deep interest to avail the emerging opportunities. No doubt that of all the BRIC countries, India is fast emerging as favorite destination for promoting such events, added Dr Pfeiffer.
