Anti-Corrosive Treatment for Reinforcement Bar
Corrosion in reinforced concrete structures is the major cause of premature failure of infrastructures like flyovers, concrete bridges etc. The most prevalent deterioration mechanism of reinforcement corrosion involves contact of steel with depassivating anions such as chloride and sulphate or the reduction of pH in concrete as a result of carbonation of the cement binder. The crucial characteristic of corrosion mechanism is that hydrated iron oxide compounds formed due to corrosion occupy greater volume than original reactants (metallic iron). As the volume of accumulated corrosion product increases, pressure is generated within the concrete, which may ultimately exceed the tensile capacity of concrete and result in cracking, delamination and spalling.
Deioners Speciality Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. has a solution. The company is three decade–old ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certified and the Licensee of Central Electro-Chemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi, Tamilnadu, a National Laboratory affiliated to CSIR, for their process of Inhibitor solution as per Patent No. 109784/67 that provides protection against corrosion to steel reinforcement bars being used in RB and RCC construction.
The process is approved by Ministry of Surface Transport (MOST), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), CPWD, PWD and other infrastructure development agencies and well accepted by Indian Railways due to its better results, low cost and easy method of application. Deioners product is a mixed type of inhibitor, which retards anodic as well as cathodic reactions and forms impervious layer on metal surface.
The Inhibitor maintains high alkaline atmosphere around the metal surface in concrete, therefore, controls corrosion due to carbon-dioxide. It increases resistance of natural passivating film on the metal surface to breakdown by chloride. It creates adherent, thin protective film on metal surface. It scavenges the oxygen dissolved in pore solution, thus, directly reduces the corrosion rate.
The above product comes from the House of Deioners, whose other products under CLEANFLO® brand include, Cooling Water Treatment Chemicals, Boiler Water Treatment Chemicals, Water Treatment Plants (RO Plants, DM Plants, De-alkalizers, Drinking Water Treatment Plants, Effluent Treatment Plants, Filtration Units, Pre-treatment Plants, Water Softening Plants, Ultrafilter Units, Ozonation Units, Electro/Gas Chlorinator Units, STP, ETP etc.).
