Visakhapatnam Port
To augment its cargo handling capacity from the current 2.5 million tons to 4.5 million tons, Visakhapatnam Port Trust plans to invest ₹1,478 crore in various activities including the modernization of its three cargo berths. According to Port Chairman K Ramamohana Rao, the modernization of west quay berths 7 and 8 will be taken up under PPP mode at ₹288.47 crore to facilitate handling of multi-cargo such as manganese, coking coal, gypsum, bauxite and cargos other than iron ore. East quay berth 7 will also be fully mechanized at ₹190 crore and will handle fertilizer and multi-cargo. ₹1,000-crore has been earmarked for port infra projects, including the construction of roads, drains and cover sheds. A 50-acre staking yard facility will be developed to store the cargo which will be shifted from the ship for which stacker cum reclaimer machines are installed. Cargo will be loaded onto a full-length rail rake as this will help the trust offering handling charges lesser than Vedanta and VSPL so that more cargo will come to the port trust.
