Sonowal inaugurates Rs 148-cr infra projects in Chennai & Kamarajar Ports
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated infrastructure projects worth over ₹148 crore to boost the capacity of Chennai and Kamarajar ports in Tamil Nadu. The projects include a bunker berth at Bharathi Dock, Goods Shed yard at Jolarpet, and a 40 KLD sewage treatment plant at Chennai port. The bunker berth project, funded under the Sagarmala scheme of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is worth ₹50.25 crore and will add a capacity of 1 MMTPA. The Union Minister also highlighted the ongoing talks between India and Russia to open up the 'Chennai-Vladivostok Maritime Corridor' to bolster maritime trade between the two countries. The projects aim to play a pivotal role in engineering a positive turnaround in the marine sector of the region and unlock the humongous potential of the blue economy.
