PM inaugurates Kochi Water Metro, boosting connectivity & tourism in Kerala
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kochi Water Metro, a project that will connect 10 islands to Kochi city through battery-operated electric hybrid boats for seamless connectivity. The project is expected to boost economic growth and tourism in the region. Speaking at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Kochi Water Metro is a "Made in India" project and congratulated Kochi Shipyard for developing the ports. The project is expected to benefit backwater tourism in the state and ease traffic congestion in the city. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Kochi Water Metro will become a model for other states in the country. The project has identified the development of 15 routes along a network of routes spanning 78 km. The first phase of the project will commence on Wednesday from the High Court to Vypin terminal, followed by the Vyttila to Kakkanad route on Thursday. Only four terminals are currently ready for service.
