Till now, only the narrow-body ATR-72 planes can operate at the Mysuru Airport in Mandakalli on the Nanjangud Road as the length of the existing runway is 1.7km, while it is 30m wide. For wide-body aircraft to operate, the runway must be at least 2.75-km long, and its width must be at least 45m. The airport is spread across 490 acres, and the acquisition of the additional 240 acres is essential for extending the runway once wide-body aircraft commence operations at the airport. It will help boost trade and tourism across the Old Mysore region.
