Centre approves Rs 12,911-cr fund for Polavaram Irrigation Project in Andhra Pradesh
The Union Ministry of Finance has granted approval for an additional fund of Rs 12,911.15 crore for the ongoing Polavaram irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh. Out of this amount, Rs 10,911.15 crore will be allocated for completing the remaining work to achieve a water filling height of 41.15 meters in the project's first phase. The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation will initiate the process by drafting a Cabinet Note and obtaining the necessary approvals. Additionally, the Centre is considering the release of Rs 2,000 crore to cover the costs of repairing flood-induced damages at the project site. An aerial survey has recently been conducted to assess the condition of the upper and lower cofferdam, as well as the damaged diaphragm wall.
