APM Terminals & JNPA to develop terminal at Vadhavan port
“The MoU aims to initiate willingness and cooperation for the development of the upcoming Vadhavan Port. Located on the west coast, approximately 150 kms north of Mumbai, Vadhavan Port is expected to be an ambitious and important government-led port project,” stated Jonathan Goldner, Regional Managing Director at APM Terminals Asia Middle East. “The project is being implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) between JNPA and Maharashtra Maritime Board, responsible for developing and constructing the primary infrastructure. Once completed, the project will rank among the top 10 largest ports globally and will serve as a green fuel hub,” added Unmesh Sharad Wagh [IRS], Chairman in Charge, JNPA.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, with the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH, and Keith Svendsen, Global Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals.
With a natural draft of 20 meters, the port will accommodate larger container vessels of up to 20,000 TEUs. It will also have convenient connections to the National Highway Road network and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) rail network. APM Terminals currently operates two significant infrastructures in India, located at Pipavav and Nhava Sheva.
