The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has started work on the second leg of phase-I of Metro construction work between Chunniganj and Nayaganj where the work has started with the preparation of the diaphragm wall at the Naveen Market Metro Station. Kumar Keshav, MD, informed that the construction work including elevated stations in the first leg of phase I (between IIT and Motijheel) will be completed soon. There is no underground Metro station between IIT and Motijheel and work on the underground (UG) section-I of the Kanpur Metro's Corridor-I (IIT-Naubasta) marked between Chunniganj and Nayaganj has also been started. Four Metro stations are to be built in the 4-km-long underground section-I--Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj and the initial three stations will be 215 metres long and 23 metres wide, while the Nayaganj Metro station will be 225 metres long and 22.3 metres wide. The underground stations of Kanpur Metro will be prepared with the Top-Down Method. This system is being adopted to minimize the impact on traffic as the barricading on the road will be reduced after the construction of the first floor starting from the road level. The work of the station below the road will continue and the movement of vehicles on the road will also continue smoothly. In addition, the commencement of construction at Naveen Market Metro station, casting works at the Casting Yard of the Underground (UG) Section-I located in Makadi Khera also started simultaneously. The Casting Yard for the underground section-I is located in Makadi Khera near Lakhanpur.
