Tamil Nadu government is all set to start land acquisition drive for the construction of high-speed rail corridor between Mysuru and Chennai via Bengaluru, which will cover 435-km long distance from Mysuru to Chennai in about three hours as against 8–9 hours currently. The Centre has recently directed National High-Speed Rail Corporation to submit a detailed project report to implement the project as quickly as possible.

It will be built along the 10-lane NH between Bengaluru and Mysuru at an investment of ₹1.2 lakh crore. The state government has agreed to provide land and the Centre will bear the entire construction cost. Work on nine new rail lines, including Munirabad-Mahbubnagar, Tumakuru-Rayadurga, Chikkamagaluru-Belur and Tumakuru-Davanagere, are expected to be ready for operation in two years.
