Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which is executing the 51.38 Km long Bhairabi – Sairang new railway line project in Mizoram at ₹6,527 crores, has fast-tracked the construction work. The project is expected to be commissioned by March 2024, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Anshul Gupta, informed. The new line will end at Sairang; from Sairang station, the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl is not far away.
The line will house 55 major and 87 minor bridges in the entire project and it will also have 11 Road over Bridges/Road under Bridges and the entire project will involve the construction of 4 stations and 12.6 Km of tunneling works. Once completed, it will lead to economic development not only for the people of Mizoram but also the entire Northeast region. The General Manager assured that NFR is ready to ply RORO service as per demand placed by the state government as and when required. NFR has examined the dimensions of plying RORO rakes between Bhanga to Bhairabi station and found them to be feasible for carrying commodities like POL, LPG to Mizoram. The service will help bring faster development to the region.
