MMRC begins construction work on CSMT metro link

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has begun construction on the project to link the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 with the underground system at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). This important line will connect with the Mumbai CSMT and Churchgate terminals, two of the largest in the city. The existing subway at CSMT is being linked with an underground pathway access to the Aqua Line 3 CSMT for seamless connectivity, so that commuters do not have to come to the surface to change modes of transportation, according to Subodh K Gupta, Director of Projects at MMRC.

The Mumbai Metro Line 3 will connect to the suburban rail system, other Mumbai Metro lines, and existing modes of transportation at around eight sites. In addition to the CSMT and Churchgate railway stations, the line will also connect to the Grant Road and Mumbai Central stations. It will be located near the MSRTC bus depot, Dadar station, and the Mahalaxmi Monorail, and will also connect to Metro lines 2B and 1. The Metro station at CSMT will have three access points across the road, including one outside the BMC head office annex building and another near the Cama Hospital gate. The Aqua Line 3 is the first and only fully underground Metro corridor proposed for Mumbai.
