
The milestones include the casting of the first set of 27.90m U-girders for the line's superstructure and the casting of the first pile cap at Sri Sowdeswari Nagar on Old Mahabalipuram Road for the substructure. The casting yard, equipped with a 146m long casting bay, can cast five 165-ton U-girders at once and the company is also working on adding another U-girder casting bay.
This elevated section, which will connect Madhavaram to SIPCOT 2, will only become operational once the 21 km twin tunnels and track work between Madhavaram and Nehru Nagar are completed. This is likely to happen by 2027. In addition, an elevated stabling yard will be built at SIPCOT, similar to the one in Wimco Nagar, to support the commercial operations.
