Kerala CM has planned a Silver Line Project for the state. He informed that K-RAIL’s Silver Line will reduce travel time between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod to less than 4 hours. It is a proposed semi-high speed railway line, 532 km long, connecting Thiruvananthapuram in South Kerala to Kasaragod in North Kerala through eleven stations.

Once completed, the travel journey between North and South Kerala will be cut to four hours from the current 12-14 hours with semi-high speed trains operating on the route at a top speed of 200 km per hour. The project was already approved by the Kerala State Government in June 2020. Kerala has signed a joint venture with the Railways for the Silver Line project, estimated to cost over ₹60,000 Crores. Niti Aayog has given the project its go-ahead and it is awaiting final clearance from the Railways.
