Indian Railways Allocated Budget ₹2.5 Lakh Crore for FY 2024-25
Indian Railways secures an outlay of ₹2.5 lakh crore for the financial year 2024-25, marking a nearly 5% increase from the previous year's allocation of ₹2.4 lakh crore. Notably, the allocation for 2023-24 was nine times higher than that of 2013-14.
The major portion of expenditure, estimated at ₹1.17 lakh crore for FY '25, is dedicated to staff costs. Additionally, fuel expenses, including diesel and electricity, are projected at ₹10,735 crore and ₹23,102 crore, respectively, for FY '25.
In the Budget Estimate 2024-25, net revenue expenditure for Railways stands at ₹2,78,500 crore, compared to ₹2,58,600 crore in the previous fiscal year. Meanwhile, reimbursement of losses on strategic line operations is set at ₹2,648 crore, with ₹745 crore earmarked for debt servicing of market borrowings for National Projects.
