Govt approves ₹2,062-cr rail line doubling projects
Railways identified a high-density network of lines to achieve the target of 3,000 million metric tons of freight movement. Gorakhpur Cantt – Valmikinagar (95 km) is an important stretch which has only a single railway line affecting the freight movement. From Valmikinagar up to Muzaffarpur, doubling work is already in full swing and the proposed doubling project costing ₹1,120 crore is expected to improve the logistics efficiency significantly. Katihar – Mukuria and Katihar – Kumedpur Doubling will significantly help movement of cargo from Kolkata Port to Virat Nagar, at an investment of ₹942 crore. Pachora – Jamner Gauge Conversion & Extension up to Bodwad will provide bypass double line railway connectivity for Jalgaon and Bhusawal. It will provide faster freight movement from JNPT to Nagpur and eastern region of the country.
