Government to Implement Three Major Railway Corridor Programs
The proposed railway corridors include energy, mineral, and cement corridors, port connectivity corridors, and high-traffic density corridors. Identified under PM Gati Shakti for enabling multi-modal connectivity, these projects are expected to improve logistics efficiency and reduce costs.
Sitharaman highlighted that the creation of new railway corridors will alleviate congestion in high-traffic areas, leading to enhanced safety and higher travel speeds for passengers. Alongside dedicated freight corridors, these economic corridor programs are anticipated to accelerate GDP growth and lower logistic costs.
Additionally, the conversion of 40,000 normal rail bogies to Vande Bharat standards is slated to enhance passenger safety, convenience, and comfort.
