GMR Group, the operator of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), will invest over ₹500 crore by 2024 in a ₹5000 crore metro rail link project by the Telangana government for connecting the aerodrome to various parts of the city. Out of the total project cost, Hyderabad International Airport’s (HIAL) will contribute around ₹500 crore (10% of the project cost) which is equivalent to the estimated cost of Metro connectivity within the airport precinct.

The state government has formed a special purpose vehicle, Hyderabad Airport Metro (HAML), for the development, construction, operations and management of the Airport Metro link. It is expected to span about 31 km in total and includes the development of an alignment of eight km along with the setting up of three Metro stations within the premises of RGIA.
