Delhi Government contributes Rs 500-cr to RRTS for Delhi-Meerut Corridor
The Delhi government has made a second contribution of Rs 500 crore rupees towards the construction of the RAPIDX rapid rail transit system along the Delhi-Meerut corridor. This additional funding, according to senior Delhi government officials, was sourced from the environment compensation fee (ECC) collected from cargo vehicles entering the capital.
Out of the total contribution of Rs 1,180 crore for the first corridor of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, the Delhi government has now provided Rs 765 crore. This financial support aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and alleviate congestion in the region. The government has also outlined plans for two more corridors, connecting Delhi to Alwar and Delhi to Panipat, respectively. These corridors are expected to improve transportation links for satellite towns and help mitigate pollution on highways.
