Decks have been cleared for construction of the ₹4,080 crore airport-Kilambakkam metro line in Tamil Nadu with the highway department giving green signal for it.

CMRL has planned a mass rapid transit between airport and Kilambakkam as an extension of the Phase-I project in the southern part of the Chennai city. It will make provisions for future projects of the highway department such as an elevated corridor on this stretch and certain changes will also be carried out about the height of Chennai Metro Rail’s viaduct in certain locations. The 15.3-km airport-Kilambakkam project will run through important locations in the southern suburbs with stations at Pallavaram, Kothandam Nagar, Chromepet, Mahalakshmi Colony, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Tambaram, Irumbuliyur, Peerkankaranai, among others.
