BMRCL gets go ahead for ORR metro line in Bengaluru
The construction of Bengaluru's upcoming Metro corridor, the Outer Ring Road line, which will run between Central Silk Board to KR Puram, has been cleared for development after overcoming a major hurdle that had delayed the project. The project was facing a challenge at Doddanekundi, where a 65-meter-long open web girder was to be placed across the railway line. However, the Railways had earlier objected to the alignment, insisting on the length being increased to 85 meters to allow for a fifth railway track in the future. After prolonged negotiations, the Railways have now agreed to allow the 65-meter girder, and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received final approval for the same. The 19-km Outer Ring Road line, which will have 13 stations, is expected to be operational in 2025-26. In related news, the KR Puram-KIA line of Bengaluru Metro has also achieved a significant breakthrough with the launch of the first two sets of U-girders close to Chikkajala. Package 3 will require a total of 784 U-girders to be launched to construct the 15.1 km that will connect IAF Yelahanka to the KIA terminal.
