The five tunnels constructed on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway, spanning from Hanogi to Jhalogi in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, have been opened for trial traffic. Although the tunnels are operational, they are yet to be formally inaugurated.
Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, highlighted the significance of the tunnels being constructed on the Kiratpur-Manali 4-lane project from Pandoh to Ot in Mandi district. Out of the ten tunnels being built in this section, five tunnels from Hanogi to Jhalogi hold strategic importance and offer tourism potential. Prior to their construction, the area faced challenges such as falling rocks and water flooding during the rainy season, resulting in road closures.
Gadkari shared his optimism about the benefits brought by these tunnels, stating, "The completion of the tunnels from Hanogi to Jhalogi will provide relief to travelers, ensuring safer and time-saving journeys. Previously, this stretch had to be closed during the rainy season due to the risk of rockfall and flooding from the Beas river."
Additionally, Gadkari mentioned that the road from Kiratpur to Nerchowk and from Pandoh to Takoli are proposed to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
