The Highways and Minor Ports Department of Tamil Nadu government has granted an administrative sanction of Rs 163.84 crore for the construction of flyovers at four different junctions in the city. The proposed project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area and has already been approved by the state's Chief Minister.
Pradeep Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, issued an order stating that the Madurai-Thondi road (SH33) is a crucial state highway in the district. The project stretch covers a total length of 19.20 km, with three major junctions along the way, including the Collectorate junction-cross road intersection located on the Madurai-Thondi road.
The flyover projects are expected to ensure smooth vehicular movement in the city, particularly at Rajaji Hospital junction, Viraganur junction, Apollo Hospital junction, and Mandela Nagar junction. This development will significantly improve transportation in the area, making it easier for commuters to navigate through these busy junctions.
