The National Highways Authority of India has hastened the demolition of the old bridge as well as construction of the newer, multi-storeyed flyover-cum-bridge at Chandni chowk in Pune at a cost of ₹1,300 crore.
Union transport minister, Nitin Gadkari, informed that it is necessary to demolish the existing bridge at the chowk to permanently solve the congestion issue after which it would be a six-lane road for smooth vehicular movement. Also, work on the connecting service road will be carried out simultaneously for which he has directed the concerned officials to resolve the land acquisition related issues at Chandni chowk.
He reviewed all the ongoing projects in the area and along with the traditional ways to demolish the structure, the ministry will explore newer technologies in the construction sector and for that, the team from Noida was called to study the Chandni chowk old bridge demolition. Work on the new project will be completed by June 2023.
