The Union transport ministry has fast-tracked work on the ₹1,900 crore national highway project including a new bridge on River Ganga connecting Sahibganj in Jharkhand with Manihari in Bihar. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. This six km long bridge, designated as the world's third-longest bridge will reduce the travel distance between two states drastically.

It is also a part of the project to build a 21.68 km new link NH-133B between Jharkhand and Bihar. This project involves the Ganga Bridge, construction of the Manihari bypass and widening of NH-131A. Upon its completion, this new highway link will serve as a strategic connecting point to North-Eastern India and reduce the traffic congestion at VikramShila Setu Bridge in Bhagalpur.
