GHMC
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to build four flyovers worth ₹311 crore at Uppal Junction, one of the major gateways into Hyderabad from Warangal and other districts of the state. The projects include a three-lane left-hand side flyover parallel to the Uppal Metro Station, a three-lane right-hand side flyover parallel to the Metro Station, a six-lane elevated corridor near Uppal Junction, and a three-lane curved flyover near Uppal Stadium Road. Currently, traffic at the junction is chaotic with the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium also located in Uppal, the chaos gets worse during cricket matches. The GHMC, which is executing the projects under the State government's Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), is aiming to reduce commuter woes and ensure smooth flow of traffic at Uppal junction with multiple flyovers. As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the Uppal Junction improvement by building the proposed flyovers is necessary to decongest traffic and reduce travel time for commuters. Besides, a four-lane 6.25-km-long elevated corridor is being built from Narapally to Uppal Junction where the construction work has been taken up by the Roads & Buildings Department on behalf of the National Highways Authority of India, which is also building a 1.46-km flyover at Amberpet. In the eastern part of the city, a series of flyovers, road over bridges (RoBs) and road under bridges (RuBs) are being built under SRDP.
