The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has approved the construction of a 3 km long 4-lane bridge on the Brahmaputra river in Kamrup at Guwahati in Assam. The ₹3,094 crore bridge will facilitate direct connectivity to the internationally-renowned silk town of Saualkuchi and the industrial region of Amingaon with Guwahati and the International airport. It will decongest Guwahati and increase transport efficiency thus cutting down travel time for daily commuters from the adjoining districts.
She also laid the foundation stone for up-gradation work of a 90 km road from Haflong Tinali to Lower Haflong, under the Road Network Improvement Project (ARNIP). Around ₹900 crore will be invested in building new roads in Dima Hasao and ₹250 crore more will be spent on the construction of the Umrangso-Lanka road in nine months.
