Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that the Shiradi Ghat tunnel road project on the Mangaluru – Bengaluru National Highway will be built at an estimated cost of ₹14,000 crore. The new six-lane national highway on the Shiradi Ghat section will have seven tunnels and seven bridges.

The existing 26kms national highway stretch on the Shirdadi Ghat will be made four-lane as per plans and a DPR has already been prepared to develop the proposed six-lane tunnel road.

Also, officials have been directed to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for a ring road in Mangaluru. The ministry has sanctioned 14 roads over bridges (ROBs) in Karnataka.
