Karnataka government has cleared Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s proposal to build new flyovers and upgrade the existing ones at ₹404 crore in Bengaluru to decongest traffic in the city. BBMP has already submitted a detailed project report for new flyovers. Currently, the city has 44 flyovers and the new projects have been sanctioned for areas like Ittamadu, JC Road, Sarakki and West of Chord Road flyover projects costing ₹230 crore and the remaining portion of funds will be invested on upgrading seven flyovers and the work will have to be completed in 18 months. The development works are being taken up under the state government’s ‘Amrut Nagothana’ scheme.
The JC flyover will be an interesting project as once completed, it will operate on the lines of the City Market Flyover with double side vehicular movement. As per the DPR, BBMP will spend ₹40.50 crore for the Ittamadu to Kamakya junction and ₹30.64 crore for the Basaveshwara Nagar to West of Chord Road, ₹20.64 crore on the JC Road to Hudson Circle and ₹130 crore on the Sarakki Junction to Kanakapura Main Road.
