Bangalore secures ₹17,000 cr suburban rail network'

    Rail Network
The railway has decided to build world-class suburban rail network in and around the Bangalore city at an investment of ₹17,000 crore and that RITES has been deputed to complete the mega project and is being handed over the draft of the detailed project report (DPR) on the mega rail project. The report, commissioned recently is expected to chalk out both short-term and long-term measures for putting the suburban system in place. The latest report includes both upgrading physical infrastructure and running additional train services, said chief engineer (construction) at the South Western Railway, Amit Garg, adding that the railways will examine the draft report and make necessary changes and that the new DPR follows a pre-feasibility report, also prepared by RITES wherein it had suggested building elevated railway lines on some stretches for want of land as it stated that quadrupling was feasible over 57 km, while the remaining 99 km needed elevated rails. Incidentally, this is going to be the eighth DPR on a suburban rail system for Bengaluru since 1983 but now the railway has decided to steer clear the project on fast-tracked basis.
