In this connection, MSRDC had sent detailed plan to NHAI for reducing traffic congestion and the Centre cleared the proposal to decongest the Old Pune-Mumbai Highway, said official sources, elaborating that the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has already sent another detailed project report (DPR) in this regard to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and awaiting clearance. The project is further targeted at reducing the risk of landslides on the route as the Old Highway routinely witnesses jams of several hours when rocks tumble down onto the road and accidents take place, which prompted the Centre to clear the proposals.
