The minister of state for shipping and finance Pon Radhakrishnan in the state government has announced the construction of steel bridge to decongest Nagercoil town at an investment of ₹400 crore, said sources, claiming that the bridge would connect Derik Junction (formerly Mathias Junction) and Kottar. The two-way bridge will be nine metres width and will have two arms that connect the Collectorate-Duthie School Road and the other to the Kottar Railway Station approach road, the minister said. There would not be much of land acquisition for the project. Work on the new flyover will begin soon after the completion of the flyovers at Marthandam and Parvathipuram where the projects are nearing completion, the sources added.
