Providing vital road connectivity from the historic port to NH- 66 and NH- 766 under the Bharatmala Pariyojana project, the Union government has cleared the 18.4 km road connecting Beypore Port to Malapparamba junction. The project which is estimated to cost around ₹400 crore includes a 2.9 km long elevated highway tackling congestion in the city, said, official sources, elaborating that the project will be implemented by the National Highway Authority of India. The project has passed its most crucial stage with the high level committee of the Union ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) granting approval for the road. The detailed project report (DPR) of the project would be prepared only after the state government completes the preparatory work as the proposals for extension of the wharf of the port and dredging is under the consideration of the union government. The first stretch envisages a 13.4 km four- lane road from Beypore Port to Kozhikode Beach passing through Gotheeswaram, Marad, Payyanakkal, Kothi and ending at South Beach.
