Assam takes up ₹22,000 cr road projects

    The state PWD minister said that road projects involving investments of ₹22,000 crore have recently been taken up across the Assam state in the current financial year and that the state government has already initiated work on score of these projects. Out of these, the construction works on projects worth ₹13,960.72 crore are currently being carried out, while new work amounting to ₹8,200 crore will be taken up very shortly. He said adding that among others, the existing state projects are related to construction of bridges, repair of roads in tea gardens and for building new ones at various places. In addition, the state will also launch a 15-year-long 'Assam Mala' program, under which ₹5,000 crore will be spent for building new roads and also on widening and strengthening the existing roads. The new projects in the current fiscal will also include ₹2,900 crore for construction of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) across the state, he said.
