The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) has decided to build Multi Model Transport Hub (MMTH) at Surat in Gujarat at a cost of ₹1,008 crore. In this connection, IRSDC is looking for a private partner that will be given 8.75 lakh sq m areas for development including commercial premises. Once the project is underway, initially, 50,000 sqm of land will come under development for redevelopment of railway station and construction of Multi Model Transport Hub. Railways will provide rights to 8.75 lakh sqm area for 90 years to the company that will be awarded the bid. The project is likely to begin within 90 to 120 days, general manager (civil), IRSDC, VB Sood, said, elaborating that railway is looking at the size of the project and prevailing market conditions. Other commercial developments will follow once the MMTH is completed and required railway facilities are ready during the first phase. MMTH would integrate state transport, BRTS and city bus services with metro, high speed rail corridor and railways. The railway will be giving built up area to the private entity so that it is clear for them how much commercial area it will get for development to earn revenue.
