In an encouraging development, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, has given its approval for implementation of the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) for capacity addition in National Waterway-1 (NW-1) at an investment of Rs.5,369.18 crore with assistance and investment support of the World Bank. The project, which is expected to be completed by March, 2023, has paved the way for signing loan document with the World Bank. The move will contribute in bringing down the logistics cost in the country, besides, boosting to multi-modal and inter-modal terminals, roll on-roll off (Ro-Ro) facilities, ferry services, navigation aids, said official sources. It also involves the designing for higher capacity barges – that can be used specially for the Ganga and Yamuna river with of shallow depth.
