North-East gets Rs. 90k-cr infra booster

    Prime Minister in a latest move has announced a staggering sum worth Rs. 90,000 crore for building rail road infrastructure across the north eastern states in the next two years. Out of the targeted fund Rs 60,000 crore would be spent under the Special Accelerated Road Development Program of the region and Rs 30,000 crore under the Bharatmala project building network of highways and roads in the entire north eastern belt. He also promised to bring all state capitals of the northeast on the rail map. While launching the North East Special Infrastructure Scheme (NESIS), a blueprint for plugging gaps in infrastructure, he said NESIS would focus on creating water supply, power, connectivity, tourism, education and health infra across the region. As a matter of fact, the lack of connectivity is one of the biggest hurdles in the path of development in the and the government vowed to ensure transformation through transportation and to add to this seaplanes will be introduced in the northeast and there would be a greater focus on building air connectivity.
